Before I start writing this note I would like to honestly confess that I am not an expert on any of the stated topics. My interest is limited to that of a layman whose life will be impacted once the Quantum Computer becomes more empowering than what it is today. Now why it will get impacted will become clear to everyone subsequently as you read through this note (some might already know). The topic of this discussion is not something new. If you do a Google search you will find loads of articles/videos trying to explain what I am about to state. On this note, my value-add, whatever little it is, to myself. I hope to get a better understanding of this subject – critically important to all of us. After I have finished writing this, I hope some readers might benefit too. Hence, without wasting any more time let’s begin.
Why is Encryption Needed?
Communicating using the internet is like conversing with someone in a room filled with strangers. Hence, whatever we say will be heard by all, and therefore it is important for us to talk in a language that no one understands except the person with whom we are communicating. Therefore we need to talk in an encrypted language to keep our conversation secure and private.
