Recently (24th Oct 2019), the Supreme Court decided the “definition of revenue” on which license fee shall be applicable. The case has sent shock waves in the whole industry on account of DoT’s huge demand (more than Rs 90 K Cr) which now the operators have to pay. The purpose of this note is to lay out the facts which led to this outcome and also to evaluate the operational impact on the operators on account of this judgment.
