The upcoming data protection bill is widely in circulation. The bill is quite different (looks like a diluted version) from what was discussed in Justice Srikrishna Report. The embedded link has the summary of this report which I penned on 3rd Aug 2018. Subsequently, I wrote another note titled – Right to Privacy: Jurisprudence of Past & Current Cases. These two articles together provide us with the background – needed to understand the context of this debate. The current note is a quick analysis as to how the draft Bill (to be introduced in the monsoon session), will impact the lives of the common man, if at all any.
Not Universal
The provisions of the prospective Bill may not universally apply to all Data Fiduciaries. The reason – The bill empowers the central government to limit the key provisions of the bill to only a few selected big Data Fiduciaries.
